ROCKSHIELD - Overlay Buyer & Order Fulfilment Manager - Cochrane, ON

SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Overlay Buyer & Order Fulfillment Manager is responsible for the hardwood overlay and core platforms buying as well as the management and supervision of personnel, activities and targets of the order fulfillment department.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Perform work in accordance with company policies, The Occupational Health and Safety Act and the applicable environmental laws;
  • Manage and supervise Order Fulfillment Team (order entry, production allocation, production scheduling, quality, shipping and delivery of finished goods);
  • Responsible for performance reviews, employment development plan and training requirements for direct reports;
  • Coordinate the needs of the marketplace and field representatives with the mills production
  • Responsible to ensure that once orders are accepted by the mill that they are produced in accordance with the customer specs, quality and schedule and in accordance with the mill’s limitations;
  • Monitor and address issues when production targets are not met to reallocate resources as required;
  • Responsible for ensuring the hardwood overlay inventory is sufficient for sales and production
  • Responsible for ensuring core platforms (MDF, OSB, Fuma, etc.) inventory is sufficient for sale and production;
  • Develop relationships with suppliers and reliable alternate sources of supply to meet company/customer requirements;
  • Negotiate hardwood overly costs/programs/or return of hardwood overly with suppliers;
  • To assure authority to question the quality and kind of material asked for in order that the best interests of the company may be served;
  • Maintaining a uniformed set of procedures in the warehouse;
  • Manage and implement procedures for overlay grading programs;
  • Responsible for obtaining quotes on material and negotiating terms and conditions;
  • Maintaining and expending VMI programs with suppliers;
  • Responsible for inventory counts of the hardwood overlay, core platforms, work in progress, part piles and finished goods;
  • Responsible for preparing Harwood overlay and core platform budgets;
  • Analyzing cost factors;
  • Travel to hardwood overlay suppliers to enhance customer relations and inspect products. Attend semiannual conferences;
  • Inform sales team of changes in market such as pricing, availability, grades and shortages;
  • Supports production to resolve any manufacturing issues and assists the Manufacturing Team with revisions and improvements to manufacturing methods and procedures;
  • Assist team members with overlapping tasks;
  • Assist team members when others are on vacation or absent;
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):

  • Knowledge in hardwood overlay grades;
  • Experience and Knowledge in procurements procedures and laws;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing and continuous process environment preferably in the plywood industry;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, self-motivated, and able to interface with all levels of management and labour. Unionized environment considered an asset;
  • Strong organization skills, ability to multi task, shift priorities on demand and delegate;
  • Demonstrate ability to make decisions, problem solve and leadership abilities;
  • Must have excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Must have strong safety program knowledge and experience including The Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable environmental laws;
  • Supervisor skills;
  • Demonstrate ability to drive production, minimize costs and/or profitability;
  • Proficient in standard desktop software, experience with Excel, Outlook, Word and databases considered a required asset and demonstrate ability to learn new software’s;
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects and be accountable;
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

  • Manual and finger dexterity as required to perform daily job duties;
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time;
  • Ability to sit bend, squat and/or stoop, reach, climb and/or crawl, including the use of stairs;
  • Works near or around moving mechanical parts, near or around electricity;
  • Exposed to a high level of noise in the work environment;
  • Exposed to smoke, fumes or airborne particles;
  • Exposed to outside weather conditions, including variations in temperature and precipitation;
  • Works near or around high and low temperatures;
  • Works near or around computer screens, photocopiers and florescent lighting.

 

CROSS TRAINING REQUIREMENT:

The position of Overlay Buyer and Order Fulfillment Manager must be cross trained with all direct reports.
